Glowing green eyes fixed him with a worried look. “Are you going to show me or do I have to give you a thorough physical?” Whether he had healed or not, Mal had felt the pain bite into her flesh, gnawing at her nerves and making her wince. Any pain made her fret about her bonded, often biting her lower lip and pacing as she wondered whether he’d return to her or not. “I knew I should’ve gone with you.”

“I don’t know how,” Jace teased, trying to keep her as calm as possible. He moved to lay a hand over hers, guiding it to his side where he scar was almost gone. “I’m fine, Mal.” he promised, leaning to kiss her forehead. “It’ll be completely healed by the morning. We needed you here, and it felt way worse than it actually was.”
