Juniper smiles as she slips into his room. It wasn’t the first time she had been in his room before – actually they had hung out plenty of times. This one just felt different. She notes his grip on his drink as he chugs down another mouthful. It was one of those nights. She wasn’t exactly sure if she should say anything or not, so for now she opts to stay quiet on that matter. “Didn’t care to clean up today?” She half giggles as she begins to straighten out the covers on his bed. It was more of a natural habit for her, she never was fond of messes.

Once the sheets are to her satisfaction, she turns back over to Steve before sitting down. Lightly, she pats the covers signaling for him to come sit next to her. Perhaps if she was close enough, she would be able to catch on to what was running through his mind.

Steve had had a rough day, still having no luck in finding Bucky had bothered him. He wanted to help his friend, but it seemed Bucky didn’t want that help. He turned to lean his back against the rail as he watched her before moving back into his room. “Not really.” he mused, not at all surprised when she fixed the bedding. HE moved to sit n the chair near his bed, leaning back. “Had a lot on my mind today. More important things.” he admitted.

Juniper scrunches her nose as she hears Tony approaching. So much for going undetected. She retracts her hand dejectedly, turning to face him. She often found herself up at ungodly hours of the night, so wandering around the tower has become a normal part of her routine.

“Couldn’t sleep. I guess I just lost my way.” She shrugs, approaching the messy desk tony was seated at.

She notes the sea of papers scattered about, most of them with different designs and numbers Juniper could never understand. It was still interesting though, to see what kind of things Tony works on when everyone else is asleep. The famous Mr. Stark and his band of robots. Her fingers reach out to grab one of the papers, curious about the information on it. “Whatcha working on?”

“Being down here isn’t a crime. I just get a little protective of my work before it’s complete.” Tony explained, sipping his coffee. He watched her come over, leaning back as she looked at the papers. “Right at this moment? New tech for the coms.” He swiped his hand over the sleeping screen and the hologram of his current work in progress appeared. Working on making some changes to make them better.”

To Loki, Juniper must appear young and inexperienced and truthfully, he wouldn’t be wrong. She isn’t naive though, she certainly knows where this could end up. Her blue eyes float down to the god’s outstretched hand. With all of her power she wills her empathic abilities away for a moment she she can take his hand and follow him into his room. “But is that really such a bad thing?” she asks, cocking her head to the side playfully.

“No, but your innocence hides a distinct power.” Loki mused, drawing her close to brush some blonde from her face. “Doesn’t it?” he asked, green eyes watching her quietly. “I can sense it, even as you try to withdraw it.” he mused, slender fingers brushing her cheek.

To say the team took a hit was an understatement. Everyone is low in spirits and energy as they recover from the attack from the dark elves. Some faired better than others, thus why Juniper is inseparable from the infirmary ward.

It was only a few weeks since Juniper and Steve had confessed feelings for each other when the attack happened. She wasn’t even with Steve to see anything happen, but when she got back to the Avenger’s tower, her entire world came crashing down.

She could barely stand once she saw Steve unconscious in a hospital bed. Her knees buckled from under her, yet she still found the energy to rush over to his side. Hot tears pricked her eyes as she reaches out over to brush her fingers over one of the cuts on his face. She waited like that for 26 hours straight. Her eyes now sunken in, face pale and clammy. Natasha had brought her one of Steve’s sweatshirts, and she graciously put it on with a half hearted smile.

It wasn’t until 35 hours after the incident that she finally passed out from exhaustion, sitting in a chair next to the bed with her head resting next to his hand.

Steve was one of few who had taken a good deal of damage. He had several healers over him, even as Juniper sat near him. He stayed unconscious for two day before he woke, surprised to find Juniper sitting at his side. He carefully lifted his hand to brush his fingers through her hair. “Hey there, June.” he whispered.

Juniper

Juniper waited anxiously for a call from her sister. It’s hard having a twin who lives all the way across the globe. She went from talking to her every day, to staying up into the wee hours of the night waiting. Quietly, she tip toes out to the pool deck to get some fresh air as she hears the dial tone ring in her ear. No luck.

She notices a light on above her, with a man leaning against the railing. Steve. That must be the uneasy energy she has been feeling the past hour. It wasn’t uncommon for her to feel the anxious energies the night brought on. Her cellphone finally clicks, and her sister mumbles something. She is just going to have to wait. Turning around, she heads back into the compound and up the stairs toward Steve’s room.

Steve was quiet as he looked out at everything, lost in his memories, thinking of what he had missed while he’d been in the ice. He liked to think they had lived happy lives once they were home, that the war had ended and they had been able to go back to their families and live on. He looked at his glass, sighing softly. He paused when the door to his floor opened and turned enough to look over his shoulder at where Juniper stood. “Why are you up so late? Sister not call?” he asked, taking another sip from his glass.

Juniper laughs lightly as Steve asks about her sister. He knows her too well. She notices the drink in his hand, the crystal glass almost empty. He’s having one of those nights. Her smiles fades a little, wishing she could take is pain. “No, she’s probably off with a guy she just met. I’ll try again tomorrow.” She shuffles her feet awkwardly. Unsure of what to do next, she looks around his room. Normally it’s neat, but tonight the bed was unmade, there were papers scattered on the floor. “Can I come in?” she asks sheepishly.

Steve watched her for a moment, nodding a little. It was a feeling he was kind of familiar with. Or at least one he recognized. Before the serum, before the war, Bucky would disappear until the really late hours with various men and women. Steve would worry until Bucky came home, and only when Bucky was safe did he feel like he wasn’t quite as alone. The thought of the brunette made him sigh and take another sip, looking back out and waving with a hand that she could come in. “Nothing wrong with a little company.” he mused.

Juniper

Juniper looks down at the huge gash running along her palm. While she can’t see it, she knows she’s got a matching one on her forehead. Peering back up at Thor, she gives him a disgruntled sigh.

“A simple thank you would have done it.” she rolls her eyes playfully, wiping off the dust from her jeans.

She looks around, noticing the chaos they had destroyed. Different figures lay limp on the ground. The outskirts of Wakanda, now in ruins, reveal the leftover rubble of Thanos’ attack.

“That monster, animal, whatever you want to call it was coming up behind you. I tried to warn you but you couldn’t hear me. So I came to your defense. I might be small Thor, but it doesn’t mean I can’t handle myself.” she defends her actions.

Slowly, she stretches out her non-injured hand to ask for help to stand up.

Thor arched a brow. “Size doesn’t make up for the fact that you could have died, little Juniper.” he scolded, looking around as he paused. He took a slow breath and grabbed her hand, helping her up to examine her. As he took note of her wounds, he wished more than ever that his brother had made it to earth. “We need to get these bandaged.” he said simply. The battle had finally ended, and Thor worried for the others. “Come, we must see about the others.”

With a painful groan, she stands up. Quickly, she scans over Thor to see if he was hurt, but all he had was a minor scratch. Guess that axe really came in handy. “You are right. We should probably stick together though.” she says.

In all honesty, the best option would be to split up and meet in the middle, but Juniper feels safe by Thor. The whole attack has her shaken up, she hasn’t seen mass destruction before. At least she knows she will be safe if she sticks next to the ‘strongest avenger’ as he puts it. She shoves back her insecurities and fears, trying to scan for any survivors. “God, I can’t believe this is happening. We are going to have a lot of work to do when we get back to the compound.”

Thor moved at a pace she could keep up with, scanning for survivors as they went. “We’ve lost many, but so has Thanos.” He concluded. The mad titan’s minions had taken a great deal more damage from what he could tell, both from the battle and whatever it was that Thanos had done. “We must regroup and form a plan.” He paused to look behind him, up towards the sky. There was a flicker of lightning in his eyes and he sighed, looking down. “Come,” he moved to pick her up, holding her close and using Stormbreaker to carry them the rest of the way. Once at the compound, Thor set her down and turned to keep watch on the field, helping those who had managed to make it back as best he could.

Hey Mr. Stark? | themusechronicals

theempathywithin:

Is it possible to acclimate to a new setting when it’s the polar opposite of what you came from? Juniper struggles to figure that out. The avenger’s tower seems like a castle compared to her house back in Maine. Every day she discovers a new nook and cranny to explore. Today, she found herself in the wrong nook to discover.

As she tiptoes down the stairs, she finds a whole new room that seems like a mechanical museum. Robots, cars, weapons, you name it, it was there. Breathlessly, she looks around to see if anyone was there. Thinking she is in the clear, she walks over to a prototype Mr. Stark has been working on.

“He really out-did himself with this one.” she whispers, reaching out to touch the shiny half done suit.

@themusechronicles

Tony had been going to get coffee in the side office. As he walked out, fresh cup in hand, he stopped and watched her for a moment. “It’s not done yet, either.” He said a little harshly. “Please don’t touch.” He walked over, reaching to guide her away from the suit. “JARVIS hasn’t finished the paint yet and there’s some minor stuff to work on. I don’t like when people mess with unfinished work.” He explained. “What beings you down here so early?” He asked, going to sit at the ckuttered but somehow still organized desk and sitting in his chair.

Juniper

She wasn’t expecting the invitation, or even his attention for that matter. Her heart picks up the pace as he mentions his room, knowing exactly what goes on behind closed doors. “Lead the way, sir.” she nods intently.

She allows Loki to lead the way to his room, making it seem as inconspicuous to any by-passers they may encounter. As he walks, she watches his confident stride, the way his shoulders sway, hands relaxed at his side. Loki is in his element. She feels small in comparison to him, his power exuding.

Freedom and Loki weren’t often words used in the same sentence, let alone the same breath. But freedom looked good on him, and Loki knew it. He knew most people could sense his power, but he never truly gave an honest answer about just how powerful he was. Finally having freedom, the ability to do as he wished as long as he didn’t cause any trouble for earth, put the god at ease for the first time in years. “You’re an innocent little thing, aren’t you?” he asked, pausing as he reached the door to his chambers. Head tilting so that a few black strands fell into his face, he held out his hand for her to take.
