Twitter made the Jewish lady that posted this delete it for “threatening violence.”

Her followers spent the rest of the day tweeting this. Trolls couldn’t keep up.

Coming from someone who studies the Holocaust and the history surrounding it, It is important to remember that Nazis were human, not monsters.

It’s important because if we dehumanize them we create a level of separation between us and them. It’s important because if we create that level of removal, we start ignoring the subtle signs of antisemitism because “Oh, well they’re just a normal human, not a monster, i’m sure it’ll be alright.” It’s important because when we create that level of removal, they come back in waves. It’s important because when you create that level of separation, you get the problems that we have now.

There is a very simple set of brain equations involved when we dehumanize the enemy, and it goes something like this:

“Nazis are monsters”
“I would not be friends with a monster”

The CORRECT conclusion is
“I cannot be friends with Nazis”

BUT PEOPLE KEEP BELIEVING THE COROLLARY
“None of my friends are Nazis”
“…even that one guy who keeps posting ‘ironic’ Pepe memes, who never really grew out of his 4Chan /pol/ phase, and who keeps trying to have really intense conversations with me about ‘globalists’. But he’s my friend! I’ve known him forever! He doesn’t REALLY believe any of that stuff. He’s just kind of an asshole, and we love him anyway.”

This is a very bad corollary. It is an extraordinarily dangerous corollary. When we sincerely believe that we would not be friends with bad people, we ignore the signs that our friends are bad people.

(Friendly note: you can replace “Nazi” above with “sexual predator” or “racist” or “abuser”. Same hat, pretty much. There are very real reasons not to dehumanize the enemy, and they have nothing to do with the enemy’s right to humanity, and everything to do with the enemy’s ability to sneak past our lines wearing a nice-person mask.)

I’m reblogging this to my main blog because it is extremely fucking important.

Loki narrowed his eyes slightly, but sat down also. “What is on sitting so heavily on your mind?” He asked, watching Bucky. The god understood being controlled and used. The only difference was originally he’d been made to want it.

Bucky shrugged. “Sometimes remembering just takes a toll, Loki.” He replied quietly, blue eyes not near as clear as they should be. “And still not knowing what can trigger the Soldier makes days like today feel off. I’m still learning who I was and what I am now.” He fell quiet as he leaned back, blue eyes closing as he sighed out a breath. “Being cooped up in the tower makes it worse.” He finally added. “So I take walks from time to time just to keep from going more insane than I already feel.”

“You think so?” she looked to him, partly unsure if this was just an attempt to give her an answer, the other part hopeful that he was right. “I’ve never liked storms very much.”

Juniper shrugs looking back out the window. The sea was washing over, the tides rolling in. Clearly Loki had picked up on her demeanor, noticed how she felt out of place. She couldn’t make up her mind, rather she was beside herself. The only thing grounding her was Loki’s presence. “Promise me you will keep me safe from the storm?”

Loki nodded, moving to sit beside her. “I’ve loved storms since I was very young. I can sense the storm brewing as well.” He explained, leaning to kiss her temple. Thor had kept her safe while he had healed and being brought back had immediately brought him to her side. “Of course I will, My Queen.” He promised, moving to pull her into his lap to hold her. “You are forever safe with me.”

Seth wasn’t even supposed to be a Part of this anymore. But they had offered more than enough money for him to agree. Right now they were at a club and Seth Was bored. He wasn’t told what he was supposed to be looking for in regards to Elijah’s behavior. Figuring he wasn’t going to get much, Seth went to the bar and ordered a drink, downed it and made his way to the dance floor.

Elijah was old enough to recognize the sensation when he was being watched. Well, being watched in a way that wasn’t normal for him. Most people got within twenty feet and could sense his natural seductive influence, and it was something Elijah himself could feel. So he knew he was being watched, and it took a bit to pinpoint the exact location. Once he knew the source, he kept an eye on the young man, wondering why he had the other’s attention from such a distance. He set his glass down, finding his way through the people in the club to slide in behind Seth. “You know you probably shouldn’t dance alone.” He mused with a smirk, voice low as he leaned in to speak in Seth’s ear.

Juniper couldn’t hold back the blush that was creeping up on her cheeks. Typically her and Steve snuck around, hiding their connection from everyone else. The fact that they had been caught in the action was enough to cause her embarrassment. Both her and Steve were rather reserved people. Her hand daintily covers her mouth as a gasp escapes her lips.

“You saw us?” she chuckles. “What exactly did you… see?”

Her and Steve had had plenty of encounters in different hallways when no one was around. Generally they made sure that the majority of people were away on a mission or out for the night before they were all ‘lovey-dovey’ with each other outside of their quarters.

Bucky laughed a little. “You’re redder than Steve was when I told him.” He mused, crossing his arms as he leaned back in his chair. “I saw enough to know I didn’t need to interrupt.” He reached for his cup, taking a slow drink before setting it down. “Nothing serious, mostly little whispers and kisses.” He promised. “I know Steve doesn’t usually want his private life out in the open, so I kept my mouth shut to everyone but you two.”
