“I won’t get hurt. I’m fine,” Alec argued gently. He had a bad habit of working more than taking care of himself, sure, but he hadn’t gotten hurt. Not yet anyway. Well, that wasn’t counting the time he’d gotten sick and that was something he wasn’t going to mention ever again. Alec grumbled a little as the pen was taken out of his hand. “When did you become such a mother hen?” Alec asked. He sighed once more and stood up. “Alright, worrywart. I’m going to bed. Though if I’m going to bed, you’re going with me.” It had been awhile since they’d shared a bed, but he wasn’t going to complain about it. Alec glanced back at his paperwork once more before he guided the way out of his office and toward his bedroom instead. “How was your patrol? Was there any unusual activity?”

“Maybe not at the moment.” Jace countered, bicolored eyes watching Alec as he urged him out of the chair. “I’m a mother hen where you’re concerned, Alec. Especially after you worked yourself into a bad cold.” he said easily, arching a brow pointedly. HE chuckled, leaning to kiss Alec’s temple. “I have to shower first, but I don’t mind staying in your room tonight.” He kept a safer distance as they walked the halls, knowing the last thing they needed was a Clave probe into their relationship. In public, they were just best friends, but behind closed doors, they were far closer than that. “It was long. But nothing out of the norm. It was quiet tonight.” he answered, stopping at his room to grab a change of clothes before joining Alec in the hall again and expertly hiding his clothes as they finished walking to the bedroom. “I was glad when it was time to come home.”

Alec closed his eyes when he felt those familiar fingers in his hair. It didn’t matter where Jace touched him, his touch was usually comfort. “Mm…,” he murmured sleepily. He should have been in bed hours ago, as it was, he was still working and apparently Jace had found a way to draw him away from his work. “I know I need to go to bed. But I have one more paper to finish.” And the Clave wouldn’t really be all that upset if they had to wait until tomorrow to get it. He blinked his sleepy blue eyes open to look at Jace and said, “Alright, alright, I’ll go to bed. Are you happy now?”

Jace had gotten back from his patrol when he’d gone to make sure Alec, Izzy and Clary were all asleep. Finding Alec’s room empty, he had sighed and gone straight to the office. He’d leaned against the doorframe unnoticed for a long moment before he shook his head and walked over, running his fingers through dark hair. “Alec, come on. You know there’s always going to be more paperwork. You can’t keep overworking yourself, you’ll get hurt.” he said worriedly. He reached over to take the pen away, setting it down and tugging at the chair Alec was in. “Come on, let’s get you to your room.” he insisted, trying to pull Alec up.
