“I didn’t expect you so soon.” Seth admitted. “How’s Lia?” Seth could sense Peter wasn’t as calm as he should be and knew he was part of that reason. Shaking his head, Seth sat up slightly, moving his hand to rest against Peter’s arm. “I want it.” Seth whispered, eyes closing for a few minutes. “If that’s still an option. I… I want it.”

Peter kept his eyes on Seth the whole time, moving to lace the fingers of his free hand with Seth’s. “I could hear your call to Terra.” he admitted. “My senses are really high, is all.” he assured,  bring their hands so he could kiss the back of Seth’s fingers. “She’s getting better, slowly. It’ll still take another day or two, ut she’ll pull through. We found an antidote in time.” He answered, losing his breath as Seth spoke. HE adjusted so he could look Seth in the eyes, the red steadying. “Seth…honey…are you sure?” he asked, eyes watering from the emotion he could feel. “Of course you still have that option. I would never ever take that option away from you.” he swore, leaning over to kiss Seth softly. “You and Malia are my everything.”

“Thank you.” Seth breathed out. He knew if anyone would understand it would be Terra. He smiled as he took the necklace, putting it on before his own hand moved to rest against hers. “If I don’t make it… Tell him I’m not sorry. I love him. But I’m not sorry at all for my actions.” Seth replied before she was gone.

It took Seth a lot longer than he thought it would, but finally he made his way back, heading straight to his room and collapsing onto his bed. Taking out his phone, Seth called Terra. “I’m back in my room. S-Send Peter in when he can, please.”

Terra had taken post outside Malia’s room, and waited anxiously for word from Seth. She was tapping her nails on her thigh when she got the call. “Of course.” she said, but before she could get up, the door had opened.

“Stay with Malia.” Peter said calmly, forcing his wolf down long enough to go to Seth’s room, knocking on the door and pausing. “Seth?” he asked, voice not as even as his command to Terra. He opened the door carefully and went right to the bed. “Baby, I was so worried. Are you alright?” he asked, eyes flickering as he moved to kneel next to the bed, hands reaching to touch even as he fought the overwhelming emotions rippling through the surface of his calm facade.

“She’s strong, she’ll survive.” Seth replied with a shrug. Running his fingers through his hair, Seth sighed. “I don’t want more. I just meant… If I refused to go back, it’s easier for all of you to just find me and take me right back. It’s not fair. If I want to be done, then I want to be done. I don’t want to have to look over my shoulder every time waiting for a wolf or fox or… anything to be right there watching me. I love them too. I love all of you. But this is something I want to do, Terra. It’s something I want and need to do and by myself. Please just go back. Send me updates on Malia or something every few minutes and if I don’t reply within twenty minutes, then send whoever you need to after me. But please let me do what I need to do.”

Terra gave a sad smile. “Know that we’re only a call away. I will never hesitate to come get you, neither would Malia or Peter.” She turned to face him, eyes still brightly glowing. “Please just don’t die. None of us could handle losing you.” she reached under her shirt to pull out a little necklace. “Wear this. It makes you undetectable. Move swift as fire and deadly and lightning.” One hand moved to rest on his cheek and then she was gone.

Peter knew he wasn’t in a decent enough condition to do much of anything, and the majority of the pack had yielded and done everything they could. It was just after Seth had left that Terra had gone to the room, being timid in her approach so as not to alert Peter too soon. “Peter, I’m going after Seth.” She said simply, moving to lay a hand on his shoulder to stop him as he moved to stand, eyes flaring red at the words, as if the wolf already knew. “Down, Fido.” she said sternly, her eyes lighting in their own bicolored red and orange. “Stay with Malia. Seth is safe with me.” she assured. “I’ll bring him home.”

Peter stared at her fr a long moment, and she could sense the conflict in him – to go after his mate or stay with his daughter – and it tore her apart to see him so upset. After a long moment, he took a shaky breath. “Please bring him home.” his voice was soft, wolf strung tight through his body as he wanted so badly to have Seth there with him.

Terra nodded once, heading after the human with the ease of a fox, keeping far enough away to stay off his radar until he began to slow down. “You planning on dying tonight to avenge her?” she asked softly, appearing a few feet behind him.

Seth rolled his eyes. He should have known he wouldn’t get to far without being caught by someone. “Terra.” He replied, turning to face her. Seth shook his head at her question. “Of course not. I wouldn’t do that to them. Besides, don’t you usually avenge someone after they’re dead? Malia is very much alive.”

Seth kicked at a rock. “I’m guessing you’re here to take me back? We need more humans, you know? Level my playing field a bit.” Not like he truly needed it. He knew if it came down to it, he could wipe out a few of his own before being brought down, but thankfully it hadn’t come down to that since he’d been with them and he was sure it never would. “I’m not going back. Go home and tell him you couldn’t find me or something.”

The little hybrid gave a soft chuckle. “She is alive, but it’s touch and go.” She watched him a moment, sighing. “I’m not necessarily here to take you back, Seth. I’m here to keep you safe.” she explained. “Peter is…extremely close to losing control. The others can sense it through him, which is the reason for the change in atmosphere you’ve clearly noticed.” she answered, moving to stand beside him. “I’ve known Peter his whole life, though I don’t look it. And I know that the pack was once all human, with a select few woles and the occasional druid and fox. Most of the pack was human. Then they realized they were more durable as wolves, and asked to be turned. Peter’s never just offered the bite up to anyone, no matter what they say.” She lifted a hand, a little flame appearing and flickering in her palm. Hazel eyes stared at it as it formed various shapes, not looking at Seth.

“Peter made a vow to never ask it of anyone after his nephew’s first love didn’t survive.” It was grounds for a fight to bring up Derek’s lost love, but she didn’t care at the moment. “Paige was his mate, and losing her changed him in ways that ended up deadly. IT’s a guilt Peter has carried for years, a guilt that made him vow he would never inquire it of anyone ever again. You changed that, and I don’t know how or why. Which makes me suspect that losing you would cause a similar change in Peter.” A frown creased full lips, hazel eyes swirling their two separate colors. “If it’s more humans you want to balance the supernatural playing field, it’s not hard to get them. The city is better off with the Crimson King’s gang than without it, I promise.” she went quiet for a moment. “They love you, Seth. And Malia may not act ike it, but if she were to cause her father any kind of pain, she’d feel guilty. Coming out of the poisoning alone will cause a bit of a mess, but to lose her best friend and future stepfather because of the atmosphere around you?”

Seth knew he wouldn’t be affected the same way as the others. And maybe that’s why he vouched to himself for the most part to stay human. It – in a way – gave him an advantage the others didn’t have. It wasn’t like him to sit back and let things happen when he could do something about it and when it happened to someone he actually cared about? He hadn’t even bothered to try talking to Peter since Malia was brought in. Hadn’t even attempted going into the room. Leaving had been rather easy since everyone else had been so easy. Sure, he could leave any time he wanted, but knew Peter and even the others preferred him going with someone else. But this was important to him. He knew exactly who to go after.

“Don’t tell Peter I’m leaving. If I’m not back in four hours… Just… Just tell him I couldn’t do this anymore.”

Steve nodded slowly, pulling the jacket around him a bit tightly. He got a whiff of the alpha’s scent on it and that was really all it took. He bit back the soft whimper that tried to escape. Peter smelled.. warm… like cinnamon and honey on a cold day. He pressed his nose to the collar of the jacket and then caught Peter looking at him and quickly stopped, dropping his head down a bit, but refusing to give up the warm coat.

Peter was worried his scent would set the omega off, but he wanted Steve comfortable. Hearing the barely there little whimper made his lips twitch upwards. Steve was beautiful but he was very guarded, and Peter knew that if he wanted to get close enough to make Steve happy, he would have to go slow. “I don’t mind, Steve. I just don’t want you uncomfortable.” he explained.
