Steve looked over at Peter slowly. “I… I’m not sure,” he answered quietly. “I… I am a bit cold, though… if you have a jacket, that would be nice…” He swallowed hard, shivering a bit but also trying to keep from doing so, not wanting to draw more attention to himself.

Peter tilted his head and moved to take his jacket off, folding it to hand it over the table. “I know you wanted to avoid anything alpha, but it’s the best I have at the moment.” He replied. “Food will be here soon. If you need more, just say so. Okay?”

Steve nodded slowly, setting down the menu. “The ham and cheese omelet with a side of sausage links, hashbrowns with cheese and white toast,” he said quietly. “Thank you…” He swallowed and wrapped his arms around himself loosely.

Peter watched Steve and wished he could comfort him somehow. “Of course, Steve.” he said softl, fighting the urge to purr comfortingly. He didn’t know ow Steve would take it and he’d been through enough as it was. When the waiter came back, he gave Steve’s order perfectly and then his own, politely asking for some more coffee at the end. Once alone again, he reached to sip at his coffee again. “Is there anything I can do to help you relax? Some tea or a jacket?”

“That wasn’t an invitation, asshole. I do what I have to in order to make sure I make it through the day.”

Peter half groaned, half sighed. “For the love of gods, Chris.” he replied. “I’m not stupid, I know somewhere in there you still give a damn.” It was an uphill battle, but that one kiss just days before had said so much more than weeks of this cat and mouse game. “And you can’t say that kiss was nothing.”

Steve was quiet as he looked through it and seemed a bit skittish when the waiter came over and was rather outgoing and loud. Steve basically hid behind his menu, even when he quietly asked for water and some juice and said he needed a minute to figure out what he wanted to eat.

Peter gave his drink order and kept an eye on Steve. “No one is going to hurt you anymore, Steve.” he promised when he saw how skittish and quiet he was. “You’re safe now.” He assured, starting to reach out before stopping himself. He didn’t want to force Steve into heat any sooner than necessary. “If you want, I can tell them what you want?”
