Steve nodded slowly, pulling the jacket around him a bit tightly. He got a whiff of the alpha’s scent on it and that was really all it took. He bit back the soft whimper that tried to escape. Peter smelled.. warm… like cinnamon and honey on a cold day. He pressed his nose to the collar of the jacket and then caught Peter looking at him and quickly stopped, dropping his head down a bit, but refusing to give up the warm coat.

Peter was worried his scent would set the omega off, but he wanted Steve comfortable. Hearing the barely there little whimper made his lips twitch upwards. Steve was beautiful but he was very guarded, and Peter knew that if he wanted to get close enough to make Steve happy, he would have to go slow. “I don’t mind, Steve. I just don’t want you uncomfortable.” he explained.

Steve looked over at Peter slowly. “I… I’m not sure,” he answered quietly. “I… I am a bit cold, though… if you have a jacket, that would be nice…” He swallowed hard, shivering a bit but also trying to keep from doing so, not wanting to draw more attention to himself.

Peter tilted his head and moved to take his jacket off, folding it to hand it over the table. “I know you wanted to avoid anything alpha, but it’s the best I have at the moment.” He replied. “Food will be here soon. If you need more, just say so. Okay?”

Steve nodded slowly, setting down the menu. “The ham and cheese omelet with a side of sausage links, hashbrowns with cheese and white toast,” he said quietly. “Thank you…” He swallowed and wrapped his arms around himself loosely.

Peter watched Steve and wished he could comfort him somehow. “Of course, Steve.” he said softl, fighting the urge to purr comfortingly. He didn’t know ow Steve would take it and he’d been through enough as it was. When the waiter came back, he gave Steve’s order perfectly and then his own, politely asking for some more coffee at the end. Once alone again, he reached to sip at his coffee again. “Is there anything I can do to help you relax? Some tea or a jacket?”

Steve was quiet as he looked through it and seemed a bit skittish when the waiter came over and was rather outgoing and loud. Steve basically hid behind his menu, even when he quietly asked for water and some juice and said he needed a minute to figure out what he wanted to eat.

Peter gave his drink order and kept an eye on Steve. “No one is going to hurt you anymore, Steve.” he promised when he saw how skittish and quiet he was. “You’re safe now.” He assured, starting to reach out before stopping himself. He didn’t want to force Steve into heat any sooner than necessary. “If you want, I can tell them what you want?”

Steve turned to look at him curiously, a bit surprised at the man’s generosity. “Really?” he asked quietly. It was almost too good to be true. He got out of the vehicle and stayed close to Peter as they headed inside. He kept his head down, not really looking at anyone until they were seated and he was handed a menu which he opened to begin looking through.

Peter nodded. “My family is one of the oldest and most powerful. We have plenty of assets. Get whatever you want, however much you want.” he assured, sitting across from Steve and looking over his own menu. He gave the other time to adjust to a new kind of leadership and find food he wanted, knowing the other would need food after not having eaten in a few days.

Steve slowly shook his head. “It happened a lot,” he said quietly. “If I didn’t do or say what they wanted me to, they just wouldn’t let me eat for a couple of days or until I’d apologized. Sometimes, it was almost worse to do that than anything else.”

Peter shook his head. “That’s ridiculous. No one should be abused like that.” His hands gripped the steering wheel tight, angry at the thought of someone being abused simply for being themselves. “You’ll find life within the Hale pack is much less stressful.” he explained, making his way to the diner. As they parked, he looked around. “Alright, just so you are aware, you can have whatever you like, no matter the price.” he promised.

“I’ll… consider it,” he answered quietly. “If I choose to stay.” He held his bag in his arms as he settled into the passenger’s seat, careful not to actually touch Peter as he moved. He was touch starved as it was… an alpha’s touch might send him into heat sooner or make him change his mind about wanting to stay.

Peter did what he could to keep Steve comfortable, starting to car and putting it in drive to head home. “It’s about a three hour drive. Would you like to get anything?” he asked, blue eyes looking at Steve.

“Could we get something to eat?” he asked quietly. “It can be drive through or something. I don’t mind eating in the car. I just… haven’t actually eaten anything in a couple of days.”

Peter frowned at the words. “They wouldn’t let you eat?” He asked, tampering the fury at the cruelty. “There’s an all night cafe with a buffet. Does that sound okay?” He inquired, driving along the road.

Steve slowly looked through the bag, pulling a few things out to inspect them before putting them back in and nodding slowly. “That’s all mine,” he said quietly. “I don’t see anything that’s missing. And a doctor won’t be able to do much, honestly. I was never allowed suppressants and the one time I had them, they made me so sick, I wanted to die. I’m a week out from my scheduled heat so there’s not much to be done about that.”

Peter nodded as he listened, watching Steve check through everything. “If you want, I can offer a way to keep the others away during your heat?” he asked. “There’s a few rooms uptairs in the manor where the unbonded omegas we take in can stay during their heats if they choose.” he explained. “The betas help keep them clean since the scent can cause the alphas to go into rut, so they would check in on you, but no alphas would try to force themselves on you.” he walked over to open the passenger door for Steve.

Steve sighed softly and rested a hand on Peter’s leg. “Peter, please. There’s no need for you to be getting upset at Stiles. He has a point. The pack, not including the extended, non-shapeshifters, only lost Theo. Stiles has a point. It’s strange that Thanos’ power didn’t extend throughout the pack even more.” He glanced back at Stiles and Derek.

“Thank you for letting me know about Clint. Next time you talk to him, ask him and the kids to come out here. I want them closer. Whenever Tony and Bruce figure out what we can do to fix things, I want to make sure Clint’s here and ready to go and that the kids are taken care of while we’re gone.”

Peter calmed visibly as Steve touched him, leaning to press his face into his mate’s neck. “I’m sorry.” He murmured softly. “Emotions are just high.” He relaxed into Steve, the most vulnerable he’d been since Steve had come home alone.

Stiles looked at Derek, then back at where Steve and Peter were. “I will. He calls at least once a day to check up on you.” He replied. “I don’t think he’ll have any problems coming here. Derek and I can set up the spare rooms.” He watched the two for a moment. “Is there anything else we can do?”
